Charles City, Iowa — Mary Green, 100, of Charles City, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services for Mary Green will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at First Congregational Church. The Rev. Rosemary Rocha, of Edina Morningside Community Church UCC, will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date.

The family will greet friends at the church an hour prior to the service.

Mary Scott Green was born May 21, 1913, in Coleraine, Minn., the daughter of Archie and Alice (Marsh) Scott. She graduated from Coleraine High School and received a degree in zoology from Carleton College. Mary met Harry Green at Carleton College and they married on Nov. 19, 1938. She worked for a brief time as a medical technician before coming to Charles City in 1943. She opened the Knitting Korner in 1966 where she sold needlework supplies and taught knitting to hundreds.

Mary was a member of the First Congregational Church, Soroptimist, AAUW, and for 40 years the American Professional Needlework Retailers Association. Mary collected dolls throughout her life, and especially enjoyed sharing them and her knowledge with others. Family was most important to her followed by knitting and serving others.

Living family members include four children, Thomas (Luz) Green of Overland Park, Kan., Mary Anna (Ed) Miller of Edina, Minn., Richard Green of Iowa City, and Charles (Barbara) Green of Edina; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on July 6, 1991; two brothers; and a sister.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Carleton College or the Nature Conservance.
