Rockford, Iowa — Harold Edward Marth, 84, formerly of Rockford, died Monday, May 27, 2013, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Mason City.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 31, at First United Methodist Church, 21 Third St. N.W., Rockford. The Rev. Judy Wooton will officiate. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford. A visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, at Fullerton Funeral Home, 302 W. Main, Rockford.
Those planning on expression of sympathy may wish to send memorials to Scott Marth, 17062 Yarrow Ave., Nora Springs IA 50458.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 31, at First United Methodist Church, 21 3rd St. N.W., Rockford. The Reverend Judy Wooton and the Reverend Wendy Johannesen will be officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford. A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, at Fullerton Funeral Home, 302 West Main, Rockford. Those planning an expression of sympathy in memory of Harold may wish to send memorials in care of Scott Marth, 17062 Yarrow Ave., Nora Springs, IA 50458.
Harold was born on January 13, 1929, on the family farm east of Rockford to Henry and Anna (Adolphs) Marth where he lived his entire life before entering the nursing home in 2011. He graduated from the Rockford High School where he was active in football, basketball and baseball.
Harold served in the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
On February 14, 1953, Harold married his high school sweetheart, Patricia (Patty) Hubbard, in Rockwell, Iowa. To this union three children were born. He was a hard worker, raising hogs, cattle and chickens while holding a second job at White Farm (Oliver) in Charles City for over 20 years as a drill operator and bullpen inspector to support his family. Accompanying him with farm chores was his St. Bernard dog.
Harold was a patriotic person and loved his country. Harold also loved his family very much. He was a neighborly person, always willing to lend a helping hand. Harold (Dad) was a simple man who told it like it was. You knew the real story when you talked to him. His heart was honest and loving.
He loved going to visit people but never overstayed his welcome. He was always there to help anyone in need. There was never a time that you didn’t get the largest bowl of ice cream in the house when you came to visit. If you were called something other than your real name that meant you were real special. He always had a nickname for you, and probably forgot your real one.
He was a great father, always wanting the best for his children, always doing special things like shoveling off the snow from the ice on the creek so his daughter could ice skate. His enjoyment was driving his tractor building paths in the beautiful woods. His passion was building the road and the dam by the creek for all to enjoy.
Harold will be remembered by his family and friends as an appreciative person with a big heart by extending his gratitude with a “love ya love ya love ya” and a “thank ya thank ya thank ya.”
Harold’s family would like to thank the I.O.O.F. Home, Good Shepherd and Hospice of North Iowa for all of their love, care and support given to him.
Those left to cherish his memory include children, Scott (Denise) Marth of Nora Springs, Iowa, Pat (Buck) Lambersten of Aredale, Iowa, and Tamara (Gary) Schubert of Windermere, Florida; sister, Janet (Wayne) Rawley of Iowa City; grandchildren, Jamie (Matt) Grieman of Garner, Jeff (Laura) Marth of Petaluma, Calif., Cory (Melissa) Lambertsen of Hampton, Kelli (John) Gleason of Aurora, Colorado, Ava Schubert of Windermere, Florida, and Erik (Olivia) Schubert of Castle Rock, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Ty, Jaren, Ellyse, Kinsey, Keston, Riley, Scotty and Freya, and many nieces, nephews, special neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Patty; brothers, Melvin, Lloyd, Richard and Lester; and sisters, Dorothy, Ruth, and Luella.
