Bobby N. Merrill

Bobby N. Merrill, age 66 of Joplin, Mo., passed away May 8, 2013 following an extended illness.

Bobby was born September 16, 1946 in Galena, Kan., to Marjorie (Ford) and Raymond Merrill. Bobby graduated from Galena High School in 1964 and graduated from MSSU in Joplin with a bachelor of science degree in 1994. He was employed for 22 years at Vickers Inc. He retired December 2012 from the Joplin school district.

Bobby married Joan Mitchell (Ewen) May 28, 1982, she survives. Additional survivors include one son, Brian Mitchell and wife Shannon (McBride) and their children, Zachary, Andrew and Jacob of Bentonville, Ark., Sisters Beverly Bruce and husband Jan of Riverton, Kansas, Sharon Merrill of Neosho, Missouri, and Donna Anderson and husband Larry of Galena, Kansas. and one brother Bill Watkins, Jr. of Ozark, Missouri. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Valentine Ewen of Charles City, Iowa.

Bobby was a member of the Galena Lodge 194 and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple of Springfield, Missouri.

Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2013 at Derfelt Funeral Home in Galena, Kansas. Masonic rites will be held followed by the Rosary. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30am May 14, 2013 at St Mary’s Church in Joplin, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Mary’s Church.
