CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Rolland Cook, 85, of Charles City died Friday, April 26, 2013, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Jim Beranek will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, and Wednesday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Rolland Cook, 85, of Charles City, died Friday, April 26, 2013, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Rolland Cook will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Jim Beranek will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Rolland Ralph Cook was born November 12, 1927, at Charles City, the son of Ralph and Amanda (Erickson) Cook. He graduated in 1947 from Floyd High School. On May 1, 1948, he was united in marriage to Joyce Buckner at Davenport. To this union six children were born. He started dairy farming on the Cook family farm in 1948 and in 1962 built the first picture window four stall milking parlor in Floyd County.

The Cook farm was a frequent field trip destination for the Charles City elementary school students. Rolland also drove a van for the Foster Grandparents for 10 years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Midi's, Elks Lodge where he was voted Elk of the year and was a Foster Grandparent for several years. For 10 years he daily brought Meals on Wheels to the Cedar Terraces except for Christmas day. Also for many years he was Santa for the City of Charles City and the Elks Lodge having made the sleigh that he rode in. Rolland took pleasure in woodworking, carving, flower gardening, hunting, dog training and riding his bicycle. Family was always very important to Rolland and he took every opportunity to share his life with them. They will always remember how he looked forward to the holidays, especially Christmas.

Living family members include his wife of 65 years, Joyce Cook of Charles City; six children, Nancy (Craig) Pogemiller of Charles City, Sharon (Mike) Garden of Osage, Gail (Tom) Rouse of Charles City, Mark Cook of Charles City, Gloria (Russ) Berns of Charles City and Julie (Les) Reynolds of Peoria, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; special friend, Mike Kloster; and beloved dog, Molly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and six sisters, Evelyn, Kathlyn, Evanell, Beverly, Carolyn and Marilyn; and a son-in-law, David Teeter.
