NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — Florence H. Kelly, 94, of Nora Springs, died Monday, April 15, 2013, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, at the Christian Church, 102 North Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, with Pastor Glen E. Bandel officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Grove Cemetery, rural Nora Springs.

A public viewing will be held tonight, Wednesday evening, April 17, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, and will resume one hour prior to Florence’s service at the church.

Florence Helen Robertson was born on Oct. 20, 1918, in Floyd County, the daughter of Edwin L. and Eslie (Scofield) Robertson. She attended and graduated from Nora Springs High School.

In July of 1936, Florence was united in marriage to John Clifford Kelly in Nora Springs. This union would be blessed with four children: Frances, John, Thomas, and Anthony.

For 25 years, Florence worked as a seamstress for Mode-O-Day in Mason City, until her retirement in 1983. She was active within the Amalgamated Lady Garment Workers Union as shop steward, vice president and president of the local.

Throughout the years Florence enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, and crocheting, she crocheted afghans for all of her grandchildren and receiving blankets for her great-grandchildren. In addition, she enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles and spending time outdoors.

Florence cherished the time spent with her family and her beloved toy poodle, Buddy. She was a faithful member of the Christian Church in Nora Springs.

Those grateful in sharing in her life are her children, Frances (Jesse) Herrera, Carnation, Washington, John (Shirley) Kelly, Charles City, Thomas Kelly, Nora Springs, and Anthony Kelly and Frank Morgan, Smithtown, New York; grandchildren, Teri Herrera, Jeff (Karen) Herrera, Pamela (John) Tucker, Patricia (Jeff) Cash, Brett (Kathy) Kelly, Bryan (Christine) Kelly, Blaine (Ginny) Kelly, Cynthia Kelly, Kyle (Laura) Kelly, and Mykayla Wilson; 18 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Eugene LaCoste; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Clifford Kelly; and sisters, Mabel McManus and Blanche LaCoste.
