CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Marva Stratton, 81, of Charles City, died Friday, March 22, 2013, at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Marva Stratton will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home. Visitation will resume an hour prior to the service at the church.

The Hauser Funeral Home, 641-228-2323, in Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.

Marva Stratton, 81, of Charles City, Iowa, died Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Marva Hilda Martha Wedeking Stratton was born June 17, 1931, in rural Butler County, the daughter of Helmuth and Bertha (Klunder) Wedeking. She attended country school graduating from Charles City High School in 1950.

On May 22, 1960 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Stratton at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. During high school Marva worked at Trowbridge Super Value. From 1950 to 1993 she worked in the Floyd County Treasurer's office, serving as the county treasurer her last eight years. Marva was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, W.E.L.C.A., Women of the Moose #1190, serving as Senior Regent from 1967-1968, the VFW Auxiliary, and the Marvelous Marva National Club.

Over the years Marva was a special volunteer in the church and the community, delivering Meals on Wheels, and quilts. She enjoyed baking, cooking, knitting, needle point, ceramics, golfing (a member of the Wildwood Ladies), but above all Marva enjoyed spending time with her family.

Living family members include her husband, Ken Stratton of Charles City; daughter, Brenda (Bradford) Bailey of Floyd, and a son Wayne (Anna Mae) Stratton of Charles City; grandchildren, Ryan (Joy) Bailey, Eric Bailey, Katherine Bailey, Jeffrey (Lisa) Stratton, Joseph (Sami) Stratton, Jerald (Melissa) Stratton; great grandchildren, Tyler (Mystian) Haroldson, Tanner, Jessica, Abby, Kaylie, Cody, Shelby, and Chase Stratton; great-great grandson, Maverick Haroldson; sister, LaVola Westergard; niece, Carol (Dennis) Brahn; nephews, Keith (Laurie) Westergard, Dennis (Rhonda) Westergard; two great nieces, two great nephews, and a great-great niece.

Marva was preceded in death by her parents, grandson James Stratton, great granddaughter, Elizabeth Stratton, and a brother-in-law Harry Westergard.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Friends of Cancer, or a Charity of the donor's Choice.
