MASON CITY, IOWA - Robert E. "Bob" Leaman, 76, of 408 15th St. S.E., died Tuesday, December 7, 1999, at the USA Healthcare Inc. of Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Sharon Betsworth of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City, with full military rites by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home and prior to services on Saturday.

Memorials may be given to the Robert E. Leaman Memorial Fund.

Robert E. Leaman was born June 18, 1923, in Charles City, to Earle and Luella (Hoger) Leaman. He attended Charles City schools. In January of 1941, he entered the U.S. Navy with his twin brother, Richard. He was aboard the USS Helena in Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked Dec. 7, 1941.

On June 15, 1942, Robert was united in marriage with Marlys B. VanHorn in Salome, Arizona. After the war, they returned to Charles City.

Robert eventually joined the staff at Armour Company and moved his family to Mason City in 1951. In 1983, he retired after more than 30 years with the company.

Robert enjoyed traveling and spent a few years delivering motor homes for Winnebago. In addition to traveling and camping, he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing and bird watching. He loved being around his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Janice K. Weaver and her husband, David, of Mason City and Linda S. Wilmoth, and her husband, Roy, of Sandy, Oregon; grandchildren, Michelle Evans, of San Diego, California, Melissa Ralston, of Fertile, Robert D. Weaver, of Mason City, Dawn Boyer, of Gresham, Oregon, and Tamara Postula, of Dows; great-grandchildren, Seth and Kaitlyn Ralston, Chelsea Shane, Jessica Postula, and Tia and Timmy Boyer; sisters, Allene Corbin and her husband, Lamoine, of Minneapolis, and June Wentworth and her husband, Dr. L.S. Wentworth, of Rochester, Minnesota; brothers, Dale Leaman, of Garrison, Minnesota, and Virgil Leaman, of Charles City; sisters-in-law, June Leaman, of Rudd, Dorothy Leaman, of Rochester, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Marlys; his brothers, Carlyle Leaman and twin brother, Richard Leaman.

Robert will be sadly missed by his family and remembered for the wonderful, loving person he was.
