Per his wishes, Kenneth was cremated and the family will be having their own private graveside service at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. Online condolences may be left at www.FullertonFh.com.

Kenneth Merl Hicks was born in 1922 to Myrl and Bertha Hicks in Charles City. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Charles City, and graduated Charles City High School in 1940. Upon graduation, he started working at the Oliver Tractor Plant (later changed to White Farm Equipment) and remained there until his retirement 35 years later. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. Kenneth was in the 14th Armored Division during World War II, serving in Germany, Belgium, France, and Italy. He was honorably discharged in January of 1946 at the rank of Tech 4. He received the American Theater Medal, two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Kenneth met his future wife, Eunice, while roller skating as kids. They were married February 17, 1944, at St. John Lutheran Church while Kenneth was home on military leave. In 1952, they built a home north of Nashua where they resided for more than 20 years. Every summer, they loaded up the kids and tent and went on vacation. Family vacations were spent in northern Wisconsin, Minnesota, Chicago, The Black Hills, and Niagara Falls.

Kenneth spent many weekends camping with family and friends, making “beanhole beans” and his famous fudge using the black walnuts he had harvested Kenneth and Eunice moved to Charles City following his retirement. They spent the next 25 years wintering in Harlingen, Texas, and traveled all over Mexico. In their later years, both enjoyed sitting on their back porch watching birds and butterflies and tending to their flower gardens. Kenneth further enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and woodworking.

Kenneth is survived by his three children, Rodney (Joyce) Hicks of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, Barbara (Terry) Mork of Charles City, and Martin (Sandra) Hicks of Charles City. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eunice in 2008, and his sister Bernice in 2009.
