CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Ruth Ploeger, 94, of Charles City, passed away, Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Apple Valley Assisted Living, formerly known as Port Charles Assisted Living, in Charles City.

Funeral services for Ruth Ploeger will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Charles City. Pastor Ruth Yeaton will officiate. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home. Visitation will resume an hour prior to the service at the church.

Ruth Esther Brandau Ploeger was born on Feburary 5, 1919, in Rudd, the daughter of Henry and Willamina (Ahrens) Brandau. She graduated from Rudd High School in 1936 and later graduated from Hamilton Business School in Mason City.

On July 3, 1945, she was united in marriage to Stanley Ploeger in Austin, Minn. They lived and farmed north of Charles City for over 50 years. Ruth was a passionate family caregiver. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed volunteering at nursing homes, socializing, living on the family farm, collecting pictures of barns, games, playing cards, baking (especially rhubarb), but above all family was most important to her. Ruth was a member of her neighborhood birthday club, Kodiac Circle and First Baptist Church.

Those left to celebrate Ruth’s life include her children, Connie (George) Fountain of Ottumwa, Alan (MaryJo) Ploeger of Hastings, Minn., Marlin (Frances) Ploeger of Charles City, Cal (Terri) Ploeger of Garner and Lyn (Carol-Anne) of Corpus Christi, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Stanley on May 11, 1996; a grandson, Larry Fountain; and four brothers, and three sisters.

The Hauser Funeral Home, 641-228-2323, in Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.
