AGED RESIDENT DIES AT HOME OF DAUGHTER

Charles City – Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist Church, for Mrs. Rebecca Hillier, 79, widow of the late Loren Hillier, former police officer, who died at the home of her daughter; Mrs. S. A. Werk, 7 miles west of Charles City, Sunday following a stroke Saturday.

The Rev. J. W. Bearse, pastor of the St. Charles Methodist Church will officiate and interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Her husband and one son preceded her in death. Mrs. Hillier had been a resident of Charles City since 1910. The Hauser Funeral Home will be in charge.

Rebecca Sanderson was born June 20, 1867 in Wisconsin, the daughter of John Sanderson and Maria (Nixon) Sanderson. (her parents’ names from the 1925 Iowa Census)

She married Sidney William Reynolds and they had one daughter Beatrice Harriett Reynolds, who married Serunus Werk.

Beatrice was born July 5, 1892 in Verndale, Wadena, Minnesota (Minnesota birth records). Sidney Reynolds was born March 1861 in Wisconsin and died November 28, 1946 in Wadena Co., Minnesota.

Apparently Rebecca and Sidney were divorced or ? because by 1900 he was married to Hattie.

Rebecca married Loren Hillier. Loren and his first wife had a son Earl Emery Hillier who was born February 25, 1892 in Charles City and died July 25, 1940 in Galena, JoDaviess, Illinois

According to the 1925 Iowa census Earl Hilliers’ mother was Helena Schuteknecht and father Loren Hillier.
