CHARLES CITYAN DIES IN STORM
EARL HILLIER LOSES LIFE IN AUTO CRASH; 2 DEAD; 5 INJUREDCharles City – Earl Hillier, 48, of Dubuque, formerly of Charles City, and Hugh Callahan, about 64, of Waterloo, were killed and five persons were injured Thursday night in an automobile collision near Galena, Jo Daviess, Illinois, during a violet wind storm.
Those injured included Elmer Beadle of Dubuque, also an Illinois Central employee, as was hillier. The car in which the three men were riding and another driven by Rosetta Ohlenberg of Galena collided. The injured persons were taken to a Dubuque hospital.
Hillier is the stepson of Mrs. Loren Hillier of Charles City. Mrs. S. A. Werk is his stepsister. He left Charles City in 1910 for Dubuque.
Both casualties were employees of the Illinois central Railroad.
Hillier is married and has three daughters.
Funeral will be in Dubuque, but funeral arrangements have not been completed.Mason City Globe Gazette, Friday July 26, 1940

Earl Emery Hillier was born February 25, 1892 in Charles City, Floyd County, Iowa, the son of Loren E Hillier and Helena (Schuknecht) Hillier. He was buried in Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa.
