Charles City, Iowa — Herman Gerberding, 90, of Charles City, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Herman Gerberding will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the Hauser Funeral Home, and an hour prior to the service at the church.

The Hauser Funeral Home, 641-228-2323, in Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.

Herman Gerberding, 90, of Charles City, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Herman Otto Gerberding was born September 22, 1922, in Lake Crystal, Minnesota, the son of Herman Gerhart and Minnie (Moss) Gerberding. He attended school at Blue Earth, Minn. Herman proudly served our country in the Army from 1943 to 1945. On December 22, 1945 he married Edith Blanck in Charles City. Herman worked for Salsbury for over 22 years. He enjoyed trout fishing, hunting, playing cards especially 500, camping, and visiting with friends and relatives. Herman was a member of the American Legion, and Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Living family members include his three daughters, Elaine Crooks, of Charles City, Joyce (Gary) Bohach of Waterloo, and Sarah (Doug) White of Athens, Wisconsin, Seven grandchildren, Angela (John) Fernau, Brenda Ingalls, Cindy (Daniel) Reinke, Josh Ingalls and special friend Laura, Teresa (Ian) Kirchner, Renae (Jason) Maschke, Russell (fiancée Jamie) White; two step grandsons, Matthew and Russell (Jessie) Bohach; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Edith Blanck in 2001, son-in-law Gary Crooks, great-granddaughter Kristie, five brothers, and four sisters.
