William Carl Schmidt – March 10, 1888 – July 10, 1928

#1

William Carl Schmidt was born in Charles City, March 10, 1888, and died by his own hand at his farm home on July 10, 1928

His mother having died when he was but five years of age, he with his brother, Fred, and sister, Alma, were taken into the home of his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. August Thiemann, where they were loved and cared for the same as their own son William and their two daughters, now Mrs. Robert Ahart of Wimbledon, North Dakota; and Mrs. Harley Ritter, of Rockford.

William and Fred Schmidt have taken charge of the farm in Scott Township, belonging to August Thiemann, who died in 1927, for the past seven years. He was in the world war service for eighteen months.

When he was a child, he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Rockford. Mr. Schmidt had always been congenial, friendly and cooperative in his relations with other members of the household, and the terrible calamity of Tuesday night was a great shock to all.

He is survived by his brother, Fred, sister, Mrs. Glen Ikenberry; two nephews Theodore Schmidt and Kenneth Ikenberry and uncles, aunts and cousins.

Funeral services were held at the farm home on Friday afternoon, in charge of Rev. L. W. Inman, Charles City. Beautiful selections were sung by Grant Coover, accompanied by Mrs. S. W. McNinch, both of Marble Rock.
The body was laid to rest in the Rockford Cemetery.
