Jacob Shimer – April 16, 1844 – October 9, 1920

Jacob Shimer was born in Knox Co,Ohio in 1844.
He enlisted in Company "E", 20th Regiment of the Ohio Infantry. He enrolled April 1864 and discharged July 1865.

Jacob was united in marriage to Lovina Lantz at Frederickson, Ohio in Sep 1870 and they came to Iowa in 1877. They lived near Nora Springs since that time.

To them were born 10 children, eight of them living and two dying in infancy. They are Mrs. A.N. Bumgardner of Mason City; Mrs Walter Baker of Rock Falls; Brs, B.L. Crowell of Rudd; F.L. Shimer of Mason City; Mrs. L.D. Sanford of Nora Springs; John Shimer of ST. Cloud,MN and Mrs. Ora Morphew of Jeffers,MN and Eugene Lee Shimer at home.

Jacob was well acquainted with the struggles of the pioneer and his friends were often by his tales of the storms and struggles of those days. He was a friend to all, ever ready to extend a helping hand to lighten the burden of others.
The GAR has again lost one of its honored members and the community has lost a good citizen and true friend and a splendid man
