Leland L. Powers, 78, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at Allen Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, of natural causes.

He was born June 18, 1933 in Rockford, Iowa, the son of LaVerne and Lois (Schrader) Powers.

Leland married Jovita Martinez in Galena, Illinois, and they later divorced. He married Mary Lou Klemz February 22, 1986 in Waterloo. She died March 3, 1998.

He worked at Rath Packing Company for 30 years until they closed in 1985. He then worked for Farmstead in Cedar Rapids and Swift in Marshalltown. He retired in 1997.

He served in the United States Army from 1955 – 1957 in the 82nd Airborne. Leland was a member of the Evansdale AmVets and a former member of Ascension Lutheran Church.

Leland is survived by his son Andy Lee and his wife Barbara of Williamsburg, Virginia; two grandchildren Maria and Alex Powers; fiancée Berdine Cole of Waterloo; sisters: Joyce Young and her husband David of Lyle, Minnesota and Jean Hull of Rockford; half-brother Harry Eggers and his wife Nora of Parkersburg, Iowa; and half-sister Bonnie Brooks and her husband Joe of Marshall, Missouri.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother George and half-brother Ivan Eggers.

Services Friday, June 1, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Locke Funeral Home. Visitation for an hour before services at Locke Funeral Home. Burial in Hillside Cemetery in Marble Rock, Iowa with military rites by Straud-Gates American Legion Post #387.
