December 4, 1908 – May 2, 2002

NASHUA, IOWA - Muriel M. Blum, 93, of Nashua, died Thursday (May 2, 2002) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, of natural causes.

Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Nashua. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, also in Nashua.

Visitation will be 3 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home in Nashua, with an Eastern Star Service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour before the services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Muriel was born December 4, 1908, at Rockford, the daughter of LeRoy and Stella (Warner) Parcher.

She graduated from Rockford High School in 1925 and went on to receive normal training to teach school after graduation.

She was married to Helmer Helmers on February 19, 1929, at Charles City and later married Lester (Johnny) Blum on September 25, 1937.

Muriel taught rural school for three years, raised chickens on the family farm and also sewed and made drapes for Sheckler Furniture Store in Nora Springs.

She lived in Rockford until 1967 and then moved to Nashua; from there she moved to Charles City and resided at Salsbury Baptist Home before moving to Port Charles in December 2000.

Muriel is survived by two daughters, Jeanne (Donald) Blum of Nashua and Viola (Gerald "Bud") Kingery of Charles City; one brother, Donald (Bernie) Parcher, of Rockford; a sister, Goldie Marrs of Charles City; a sister-in-law, Carol Parcher of Rockford; eight grandchildren, Barbara Stewart, Judy Kock, Kim Bohlen, Kevin Kingery, David Blum, Steven Blum, Robert Blum and Steven Blum; 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Helmer Helmers, October 1, 1935, and Lester (Johnny) Blum, October 2, 1995; an infant son, Doyle Helmers; and two brothers, Gale and Wayne Parcher.
