Irene I. Bierbaum, 75, of rural Charles City, Iowa, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 19, 1991, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital after being stricken at home.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 22, 1991, at the Colwell United Church of Christ in Colwell with the Rev. R. Treichel officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery at Rockford, Iowa. Fullerton Hage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Irene I. Bierbaum was born on October 4, 1916, on the family farm in rural Rockford, the daughter of Walter and Lola Reihm Hoffman. She attended schools in Rockford. On July 6, 1933 she was married to Leander H. Bierbaum in Garner, Iowa. The couple made their home on the family farm southeast of Rockford. In 1950 they moved to a farm they had purchased northeast of Charles City. He died July 28, 1976. She continued to live on the farm until her death. She was a member of the Colwell United Church of Christ and the Colwell Senior Citizens. She was active in the church's fall dinners and in quilting and afghan making.
Living family members include two sons and their wives, Walter and Barbara Bierbaum of Mason City, and Richard and Joanne Bierbaum of Cedar Rapids; one daughter and her husband, Mary and Harvey Hanson of Vermillion, South Dakota; two brothers, Robert Hoffman of Rockford and Lyle Hoffman of Shoshoni, Wyoming; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
