Bertha L. Blunt, 97, of Rudd, Iowa, died Saturday, October 5, 1991, at Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel in Nora Springs, with Rev. W. Mulford of Belmond United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Rudd.

Mrs. Blunt was born on July 2, 1894 in the province of Pommern, Germany, a daughter of Ferdinand and Augusta (Pasevalt) Handt. She came to the United States at the age of six. For a short time she and her husband, Lewie, operated the Rudd Cafe, later they farmed south of Rudd for many years, until moving into Rudd in 1959. Mrs. Blunt has resided at the Nora Springs Care Center since April of 1991.

Mrs. Blunt was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Rudd.

Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Merlyn (Viola) Townsend of Belmond, Iva Gruver of Okoboji, and Mrs. Dale (Betty) Neel of Manly; one brother, Carl Handt of Columbus, Indiana; a granddaughter she raised, Judith Oeltjenbruns; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewie; three sons, Orvie, Paul and Clair; three sisters; four brothers; and one grandson.
