BEARD, Robert J. 1924-1991

Robert J. Beard, 67, of Floyd, Iowa, died on Wednesday, December 11, 1991, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Saturday at the Floyd United Methodist Church with Rev. Grim officiating. Burial was in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

He was born on June 20, 1924 in rural Nora Springs, Iowa, the son of Walter B. and Bessie Mae (Nains) Beard.

He graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1942. He farmed and milked cows.

He married Mary Young on June 2, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They moved to a farm near Nashua. He farmed, and also worked for Hydrotile in Nashua. He later worked at Walsh Manufacturing in Charles City. In 1961 he started working for Watkins products. He also became an independent deed salesman. While they lived in Nashua they were very active in the Little Brown Church and served on the board of directors.

They moved to Rockford in 1962 and then rural Nora Springs in 1974. He retired from the farm in the fall of 1990 and they then moved to Floyd.

He loved to collect, repair, and sell old antique farm toys.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Beard of Floyd; two daughters, Mrs. Duane (Janice) Losee of Mason City and Mrs. Alan (Sharon) LaCoste of Rudd; one son, Doug Beard, and his wife Karen Beard of Floyd; his mother, Bessie Mae Beard, Nora Springs; one sister, Mrs. Sid (Ruth) Merryman, Waterloo; two brothers, Harry Beard of Moline, Illinois, and Foster Beard of Rudd; six grandchildren: Troy, Michelle, and Dawn Losee, all of Mason City, and Wayne, Stacy and Brad LaCoste, all of Rudd; and one great-granddaughter, Erika Losee of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his father.
