Fred J. Thiele, 98, of Mason City, Iowa, died on Saturday, February 8, 1992 at Good Sheperd Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Ernest Thompson officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Fred J. Thiele was born on January 16, 1894 at Forreston, Illinois, a son of William R. and Emma (Henning) Thiele. He moved with his family to Hawkeye where he grew up and attended country school. He then attended an auto repair school in Detroit, Michigan. He served in World War I at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, from 1918-1919.

He married Eleonore Brandenburg on July 14, 1920 in Rockford and lived in Nora Springs from 1920 to 1932. They farmed near Marble Rock from 1932 to 1944, and then returned to Nora Springs and ran Thiele Auto from 1944 to 1968, retiring and moving to Mason City in 1968.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Bette Quigley of Harlingen, Texas, and Beverly Evans and husband Frank, of Fountain Hills, Arizona; three grandchildren: Gregory Evans of Scottsdale, Arizona, Candyce Evans Malley of Park Ridge, Illinois, and Karen Quigley Villarreal of Harlingen, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Natalie and Scott Evans, and Danny Villarreal; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eleanor; one grandson, Brent Quigley; one brother; and three sisters.
