Burton A. Schmolke, 62, of Knoxville, Iowa, and formerly of Nora Springs, Iowa, died on Saturday, September 12, 1992, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Knoxville.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, with Rev. R. Pippert of the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs, officiating. Burial was in Rock Grove Cemetery, rural Nora Springs.

Burton A. Schmolke was born on September 5, 1930 in Bangor, Iowa, the son of Fred Otto and Doris (Grandy) Schmolke. He received his elementary education in the Nora Springs school system and graduated from Nora Springs High School. After completing his schooling, he was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War. Shortly after his discharge from the Marine Corps, Burton fell ill due to a service connected disability. He had been a patient of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Knoxville for 38 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Regina Locke, of Idaho; two grandchildren; one sister, Grace Ann Lockhart of Coos Bay, Oregon; one brother, Norman Schmolke of Nora Springs; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Gordon, Charles, and Arnold Schmolke; and by two sisters, Dawn and Kay.
