Berl Robert Patten, 75, of Rockford, and formerly of Manly, Iowa, died on Sunday, June 7, 1992 at the Manly Care Center.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly with Rev. W. Auquitt officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Berl Robert Patten was born on February 8, 1917, in Rudd, a son of Robert LeRoy and Elva (Losee) Patten. He received his elementary education in the Rudd school system. After completing his schooling he began working for various farmers in the Rudd area.

He married Marjorie Lorraine Paulus on February 6, 1940, in Rockford. Marjorie preceded him in death on May 16, 1980. After their marriage, Berl was inducted in the United States Army and served during World War II. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he began working for State Brand Creamery in Mason City in 1945, as a truck driver. He worked there for 29 years, until his retirement in 1974. He then began working for Kensett Homes. He worked there for ten years, until his retirement in 1984. He also was manager of the MacNider Camp Grounds in Mason City from 1985 until 1986.

He enjoyed traveling and wintering in Texas, California and Nevada. Berl entered the Manly Care Center in October of 1991.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly, and the Moose Lodge and Teamsters Union Local 838, both in Mason City.

Survivors include a son, Robert Patten and friend Sue Johnson of Clear Lake; two daughters, Jean and her husband Wayne Roberts of Clear Lake, and Joyce and her husband Larry Romig of Manly; a half-brother, Donald and his wife Gertrude Lines of Sacramento, California; a special friend, Julia Witter of Rockford; nine grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy Hinich; one brother, Vernon Patten; and a half-brother, Jerry Lines.
