SYLVAN J. MAERTENS*

Sylvin J. Maertens, 86, of Nora Springs, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 31, 1992, at the Nora Springs Health Care Center.

Funeral services were held on Friday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel in Nora Springs. Rev. R. Pippert of First United Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Park Cemetery.

Sylvin J. Maertens was born on September 9, 1905, at Jobbeke, Belgium.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley McGonigle, Clarion; three sons: Bill Maertens of Marshalltown, John Maertens of Mesa, Arizona, and Roy Maertens of Mason City; two sisters, Mary Boerjan and Ann Lievrouw, both of St. Ansgar; one brother, Morris Maertens, Tracy, Minnesota; and 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

Sylvan & Whilemina's son, Lee "Roy" Maertens passed away on August 7, 2010.
