Joan P. Lavery, 88, of Mason City, Iowa, died on Sunday, July 12, 1992, at Mercy Hospital in Mason City.

Memorial services were held on Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, Mason City, with Rev. R. Nielsen officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Park Cemetery, Nora Springs, Iowa.

Memorials may be given as a medical donation to University Hospital, Iowa City.

Joan P. Lavery was born on September 12, 1903, in Portland Township, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, a daughter of Peter H. and Marie (Siverts) Petersen. She attended Nora Springs High School. She received her nursing training in Chicago at the American Evangelical Hospital and worked there as a nurse for several years. She continued her education at the hospital and received her x-ray technician certificate. She moved to Mason City in 1966.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Clara Barker and her husband, Howard, of Mason City, and Dorothea Todino, of Ellenton, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, two sisters and one brother.
