HILLMAN, Danny D.

Danny D. Hillman, 46, of Marble Rock, died on Sunday, May 3, 1992, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City, of injuries resulting from an accident on April 14.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Marble Rock United Methodist Church with the Rev. Shirley Meendering officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock, with military rites conducted by Stroud Gates Post No. 387 American Legion of Marble Rock.

Danny Dale Hillman was born on February 8, 1946, at Cedar Valley Hospital, Charles City, a son of Darrell Jay and Reka (Arends) Hillman. He received his education in Marble Rock public schools and graduated from Rockford Senior High School in 1964.

During his school years and following graduation, he worked at the Hillman Service Station in Marble Rock. On October 12, 1965, he was inducted into the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Sill and Fort Leonard Wood. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Following his discharge on October 1, 1967, he returned home and started Hillman Trucking Company, where he was a contract trucker for Rockford Brick and Tile until that business closes. He became an independent truck driver and grain dealer and hauled other commodities including fertilizer, glass, peat, road salt and insulation.

On June 26, 1970, he married Carma Kock at St. John's Lutheran Church, Charles City. Following their marriage they lived in rural Rockford for two years before moving to Marble Rock. To this union were born four children.

Throughout his 25 years of trucking, he logged over two million miles and acquired a large circle of friends and acquaintances. "Popeye," as he was affectionately called by his friends, will be remembered for the helping hand he offered and generous nature he demonstrated to whomever he came into contact with.

He was a member of Marble rock United Methodist Church, and Methodist Men's Fellowship. He was also a member of the Marble Rock Historical Society and the American Diabetes Association.

Survivors include his wife, Carma, of Marble Rock; three daughters, Holly Nicole, Heidi Noele, and Darci Joy, and one son, Dana Nathan, all at home; his parents, Darrell and Rex Hillman, Marble Rock; one sister, Linda Nash, Winter Park, Florida; one brother, Dee Jay Hillman, Rock Falls; and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Klink.
