Virgil Lee Govro -- 5 Sep 1900 -- Feb 1973

Obit -- Virgil Lee Govro Rockford -- Virgil Lee Govro, 73, died Thursday at his home. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Wilcox-Schumburg Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery. The Rev. Carroll E. Robinson will officiate. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Saturday.

Born Sept. 5, 1900, at Rock Falls, he was the son of John J. and Ida Rose (Gashel) Govro. He attended Rockford schools. He married Loretta Lawson at Newark, N.J.

He was engaged in business in Hawaii several years. He was also a professional wrestler. He returned to Rockford about 10 years ago.

Surviving are a son, John T., Whittier, Calif.; a brother, Kenneth, Rock Ledge, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Henry (Madge) Ewald, Marble Rock and Mrs. Jack (Vivian) Field, Rockford.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He was buried in Feb 1973 in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, Floyd, IA.
Virgil Lee Govro and Loretta Lawson were married in Newark, Essex, NJ. Loretta Lawson died before 1962. She was buried in Long Branch, Monmouth, NJ. One son, John, born 1924 in Rockford, who died Oct. 1975 in California of cancer.

Note*** Virgil served in World War II with the Iowa Tec 5, 56th Armored Infantry. As a civilian he served on the Civil Service Police Force in Honolulu, Hawaii and owned and operated Dryman Collection Agency in Honolulu. He was also a professional wrestler for about ten years under the name of "Whitey" Govro.
