NORA SPRINGS CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES SUDDENLY
JAMES E. GREEN SUCCUMBS TO HEART DISEASE; RITES TO BE ANNOUNCEDNora Springs, Jan. 23 – James E Green, Civil War Veteran, former Mason City resident, died at his home here at 9:30 o’clock this morning.
He had been in poor health for some time but the past few days his condition was improved. He walked into the kitchen this morning and then complained of not feeling well. An attack of heart disease caused his death. Funeral arrangements have not been made.
Mr. Green was born in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, January 16, 1844, and went to Wisconsin with his parents at the age of 5. There he settled near Lone Rock.
He enlisted in 1863 at Madison and was placed in the forty-first Wisconsin regiment and was sent to Memphis, Tennessee, where he served until he became ill. He was discharged and re-enlisted later.
Following his discharge at Louisville, Kentucky, at the close of the war Mr. Green came to Iowa and in 1867 was married to Miss Marian Foster at Mitchell. One son, Charles E., lives in Chicago.
