Clarissa (Brower) Halstead – July 4, 1822 – March 29, 1908

OBITUARY

Mrs. Clarissa Halstead was born July 4, 1822 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Trimble, March 29, 1908, at the age of 85 years, 8 months, and 25 days.

With gentle touch and friendly guidance the Angel of Death has come among us and led away to her long home one who was dear to all who knew her. Yet gentle as was his messenger, the shaft-of death was not without its sting for her loved ones, who fain would have had a parting word, a last lingering pressure of mother’s hand in blessing and farewell.

In the home of her childhood, Clarissa Brower was married to Charles Halstead, on February 22, 1846, and in the year 1853 moved to Iowa and settled on a farm near Flood Creek, and later near Rockford, where Mr. Halstead died January 18, 1861.

To this union eight children were born, two dying two years ago. Those surviving are; Almira Halstead, Carey, Illinois; Emily Huggett; Ella Huggett and Columbus Halstead of Marble rock; Annie Trimble of Greene, and Steven Halstead of Washington.

The deceased united with the church 43 years ago and has always remained a devout Christian and an earnest worker in the church of her faith.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. C. Stewart of the Church of Christ, this city, on Tuesday afternoon at Marble Rock.
