MRS. FLOYD MEERDINK DIES AT 55

Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bethany Alliance Church in Charles city for Mrs. Floyd (nee Gladys Smith) Meerdink, 55, of Riverton Township.

She died Sunday afternoon at the Chautauqua Guest Home on 11th Street, where she had been a patient the past two weeks of cancer.

The Rev. Maurice L McClun, pastor, was to officiate and burial was to be in Riverside Cemetery

Visitation was at the Hanser Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Monday.

Gladys Smith was born January 4, 1915, at Plainfield, the daughter of Will and Malissa Westervelt Smith. She was graduated from Charles City High School and June 4, 1935, was married to Floyd A. Meerdink at Powersville. Mrs. Meerdink was a member of the Bethany Alliance Church, the Women’s Missinary Prayer Fellowship, and taught Sunday School for many years at the church.

Surviving are her husband, Floyd; two sons; Earl of Cicero, Illinois; and Paul of Charles City; two daughters; Janet and Mrs. Gary (Carol) Brown, both of Charles City.

There also are six grandchildren; and a sister; Mrs. Dorothy Dowd, Charles City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
