HERMAN ARHART FUNERAL HELD AT MARBLE ROCK
Marble Rock, March 25 – Funeral services for Herman Arhart, 86, were held at the M. E. church by the Rev. L. W. Inman of Shellsburg a lifelong neighbor and friend. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers.
Mr. Arhart was born in Pomerania, Germany, March 16, 1849. He came to America with his parents when seven years old and lived with them in Wausau, Wisconsin.
In 1868, he came to Iowa with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Dunning, coming to this community.
On March 28, 1874, he was married to Augusta Smith of Charles City, living in Scott Township, then in Union township until 1900, when he turned his farms over to his children and moved into Marble Rock.
His surviving children are Fred W. of this community and Mrs. Hattie Packman of Long Beach, California. His son, Charles, daughter, Mrs. Joseph Ackley, and wife preceded him in death.
One brother, Charles, of this place, survives, also nine grandchildren and 13 great grand-children.Mason City Globe Gazette, Monday March 25, 1935
