John L Harr – September 28, 1863 – January 25, 1944

J. HARR FORMER DRUGGIST DIES
NORA SPRINGS MAN WAS PHARMACIST 53 YEARS

Nora Springs – J. L. Harr, 80, Nora Springs businessman for 35 years, died at his home here at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday following several years’ illness with heart trouble. He suffered a stroke about a week ago.

Mr. Harr was born in Pennsylvania, September 28, 1863. He has been a registered pharmacist for 53 years, moving to Nora Springs in 1907 and operating a drug store here until illness forced him to close his business 3 years ago.

He married Leila Blanchard in 1892. Two children were born Wayne Harr, who died in 1927 and Mrs. Harold Hofler of Nora Springs, who survives. Mrs. Harr died October 15, 1905, and was buried at Chariton.

In 1908 he married Mrs. Helen Brown, who died in 1935. His step-children by this marriage were Roy Birran of Augusta, Kansas; Dr. Virgil Brown of Wichita; Mrs. Harvey Robbins of Murlingame, California; Mrs. Melvin Jones of Nora Springs, who survive him; and Mrs. Otto Fischer of Rockford, who died in 1922.

There are also among the survivors 8 grandchildren; 2 sisters; Mrs. Maude Bryner of Janesville, who was here at the time of Mr. Harr’s death, and Mrs. Nevada Brown of Minneapolis; and one brother; Harry Harr of Lowell, Michigan.

Mr. Harr ws a member of the local chapters of both the Masonic and Eastern Star Lodges.
The funeral was to be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon in the Methodist church. Burial was to be at Chariton.
