Esther D. McDonald

Esther D. McDonald of Remington, died on Sunday, May 15, 1994, at her residence.

She was born on March 5, 1909 at Nora Springs, Iowa to the late Karl Volkman and Emma Pribbenow Volkman.

She graduated in 1926 from the Nora Springs High School and then attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City. She worked for the Farm Bureau Office in Charles City and Des Moines.

In 1939, she moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the Census Bureau until she transferred to the Maritime Commission during World War II and worked in Algeria, Egypt and Italy. When she returned to the United States she worked at the Atomic Energy Commission until her retirement.

On September 23, 1961, she married George D. McDonald. They resided at Lokata (Culpeper County) where she lived until her death. Mr. McDonald died January 16, 1985.

She is survived by one niece, Shirley Squier; three great-nieces, Merry Dickens, Luann Wogstad, Karen Koenigs; one nephew, Bruce Squier, all of Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Estelle McDonald of Culpeper.

A graveside service was held at Jeffersonton Baptist Church Cemetery on Thursday, May 19.

Memorial contributions may be made to Remington United Methodist Church Building Fund, Remington 22734.

Clore Funeral Home, Culpeper, Virginia was in charge of the arrangements.
