CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Betty Jean Caster, 87, of Nashua, formerly of Charles City, died Saturday, August 4, 2012, at Floyd County Medical Center, Charles City.

She was born May 7, 1925, in Powersville, daughter of John and Mabel Smith Ferch. She married Glenn Caster on June 22, 1945, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. He died Feb. 28, 2003.

Mrs. Caster attended Marble Rock High School. During World War II she worked for the National Youth Administration, cleaned homes and worked at Washington School, Charles City, for the hot lunch program for many years. She was a member of Bethany Alliance Church, Charles City.

She is survived by two sons, Dennis of Charles City and Randy (Amy) of Plainfield; by a daughter, Becky Caster of rural Nashua; by nine grandchildren; by several great-grandchildren; by two sisters, Lorraine Eckenrod and Doris Bertelson, both of Charles City; and by a brother, Jerry (Sandy) Ferch of Downers Grove, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Groesbeck; by two grandsons; and by three brothers, Paul, Donald and Roger Ferch.

Services will be held on Wednesday at Bethany Alliance Church, Charles City, with burial in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home, Nashua, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
