Donald Unger died on February 23, 1993, in Seattle, Washington, where he had lived since 1948.

Born and raised in Rockford, Iowa, he was the son of Sophia Boller and Conrad Unger, long-time store keepers in Rockford. Unger's Jewelry Store was started by Don's grandfather in 1879, later run by Conrad Unger and after his death by his widow, Sophia Unger, who ran Unger's Gift Shop until 1957 when she closed the store and retired.

Don graduated from Rockford High School in 1940, president of his class. He served in the U.S.Navy in World War II and in 1946 married Eunice McDevitt in Rockford. He retired in 1984.

He is survived by four children; nine grandchildren; his brother, Harold Unger; and by his sister, Marry Claire Fehring.
