MRS. FESTL DIES IN NORA SPRINGS
WAS MEMBER OF ONE OF PIONEER FAMILIES IN NORTHEAST IOWA

Nora Springs – Mrs. J. B. Festl died early Friday morning at her home in Nora Springs.

Mrs. Festl, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Gildner, was born in 1858 in Tavistock, Ontario, Canada. When she was eight years of age she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gildner, to a farm north of here. The Gildners were one of the pioneer families in this section. Mrs. Festl was the last member of her family group to succumb, her parents and three brothers, Henry, Warner and Conrad, and one sister, Mrs. Val Claus, having preceded her in death.

In 1876 she was married to John B. Festl. They made their home on a farm six and one-half miles north Nora Springs until about 40 years ago, when they moved into town, where Mr. Festl operated a lumber yard for several years.

They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary just before Mr. Festl’s death in 1938.

Since her husband’s passing, Mrs. Festl had made her home with her daughter; Mrs. C. E. Kluver of Nora Springs.

A year ago last February 13th, Mrs. Festl fell, fracturing her leg. Since that time she had been confined to wheel chair and bed.

Mrs. Festl joined the Baptist Church when a small girl and after the Baptist Church ceased in Nora Springs, she attended the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Festl; a daughter; Mrs. W. H. Lucas, who died in 1936; and an infant daughter, Anna.

Surviving are her daughters; Mrs. C. E. Thompson and Mrs. C. E. Kluver, and a grandchild, Doris Kluver, all of Nora Springs.

Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Festl at the Church of Christ Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
