WED 59 YEARS (Anniversary article just before is death)

Nora Springs, Jan. 28 – Mr. and Mrs. John B. Festl have been honored on their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary, which was Monday. The two were married January 28, 1876, at the home of her parents, two miles east of Rock Falls.

Mr. Festl was born in Bavaria, Germany, June 17, 1848, and came to this country at the age of 18. After living in Wisconsin a short time, he came to Mason City and there helped unload the first carload of lumber.

Mrs. Festl was born March 8, 1858, at Tavistock, Canada, and came to the United States with her parents at the age of 8 years. The family settled southeast of Rock Falls on the banks of the Shell Rock River.
After their marriage, Mr. Festl purchased a farm in Mitchell County five miles north of Nora Springs. This couple lived and toiled together these many years and endured many hardships, but through all of these, as through the fire which partly destroyed their home last March, always lived with this motto in mind, “It is for the est and it could have been worse.”

Mr. and Mrs. Festl are enjoying good health and caring for their home. They live near their three daughters and sons-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Kluver; Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Lucas.
John B. Festl passed away in February 1938, burial was in the Park Cemetery, Nora Springs, Floyd County, Iowa.
