Lillis Spain, 83, of Mason City, Iowa, died on Sunday, April 18, 1993 at Heritage Care Center.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Conrad, with Rev. Krow officiating. Burial was in Conrad Cemetery.

Lillis Virginia Wilson was born on December 31, 1899, in Nora Springs, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Grace Wilson. She had one sister, Ruth. She attended school in Nora Springs, and graduated in 1918. In 1922 she received a registered nurse degree from Presbyterian Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.

She married Dr. Robert T. Spain in May 1926. They lived in Conrad throughout their married lives. He died in 1958. She continued to live in Conrad until 1988, when she moved to Mason City to be closer to her family.

Her life was always active, being involved in extensive volunteer work and was instrumental in starting the Conrad Library. She was a 74-year member of Eastern Star, and a life-long member of the United Methodist Church. She was involved in the Women's Club of Conrad for many years. She traveled extensively.

Survivors include her daughter, Katherine "Kay" Strom, Mason City; two grandsons, Robert T. Strom, Mason City, and Stephen J. Strom, Garner; and five great-grandchildren: Travis, Sarah, Katherine and Ryan Strom, and Jessica Shull, all of Garner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister.
