Lila Feltus was born January 11, 1927, the first of three daughters, to Mark and Gladys (Swann) Ferguson of La Grange, Illinois. In 1935, the family moved to Charles City where she graduated from high school in 1945. She attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, before returning to the Charles City area. Lila found great joy in music and for many years played the piano at the Congregational Church. Lila was employed at her parents' business, the Charles City Laundry, and later, at The Optometric Center.

On May 5, 1972, Lila married Willard D. Feltus in Charles City and welcomed him, with eight children, into her home. In addition to being a loving stepmother, Lila always had a warm spot in her heart for her nieces and nephews, the children of Jean (Robert) Meyer and Helen (John) Bullen.

Lila enjoyed telling stories of her childhood, such as attending the Chicago World's Fair in 1933, riding the train to Charles City to visit her grandparents, and taking her father's Red Cross First Aid Class when she was only eight.

Living family members include her husband of 40 years, Willard Feltus, stepchildren: Jane Ferch of Clarksville, Anne (Don) McWilliams of Dumont, Mary Lou Shaw of Marble Rock, Celia (Randy Sorensen) Feltus of Coralville, Shawn (Dee) Feltus of Rockford, Ruth (Greg) Hallett of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Tami Wright of Phoenix, Arizona, and Amy (Randy) Rosser of Lafayette, Colorado; 13 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; two nephews, Mike and Dan Bullen; and five nieces, Laurie (Meyer) Cocking, Nancy Meyer, Amy (Bullen) Campbell, Janan (Bullen) Burns, and Suzanne (Bullen) Starbeck, and special friends Randy and Terri Vandeventer.
