Violet R. Nelson, age 81, of Rudd, Iowa, died on Wednesday, December 15, 1993, at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center, in Mason City, Iowa, following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 18, 1993, at the Schumburg Funeral Home, Rockford. Rev. J. Newland, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Osage, officiated. Burial was in the Rock Grove Cemetery, rural Nora Springs.
Mrs. Nelson, the former Violet Rosella Novak, was born on September 9, 1912, in Downey, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Pearl (Babbit) Novak. The family moved north of Colwell and then to Rudd in 1918. She graduated from the former Rudd High School in 1933.
She married George A. Nelson in 1933 in Charles City, Iowa. The couple made their home in Rudd until moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota in the early 1940's. They moved to Marble Rock in 1944 and returned to Rudd in 1947. Mr. Nelson died on January 1, 1971, in Osage, Iowa.
For 23 years Mrs. Nelson was employed as a seamstress for the former Mode O Day Company in Mason City, retiring in 1981. She was a Lioness with the Lions Club of Rudd, and was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. She enjoyed the company of her two cats. She was fond of country-western music, a love which developed when she toured with her husband who played in a country-western band.
Living family members include two daughters, Sharon Noe of Rudd, and Sandy Johnson of Bettendorf; three grandchildren, Reginald Noling of Mason City, Becky Kennedy of Des Moines, and Jessica Johnson of Bettendorf; seven great-grandchildren: Shawn, Krystal and Justice Noling, and Caley, Casey, Colby and Cory Kennedy.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Novak.
