Funeral Mass for Hadwin W. Owen, 79, of Marble Rock, was at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 1993 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Roseville, with Rev. Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery at Marble Rock.

Hadwin Wells Owen was born on February 6, 1914 in Lime Springs, Iowa, the son of Henry and Maude "Mattie" (Wells) Owen. He died on Monday, June 14, 1993, at the Floyd county Memorial Hospital in Charles City, Iowa, of an apparent heart attack.

He received his education in the Lime Springs public schools, and at the age of 14, moved with his family to Cedar Falls, where he graduated from High School in 1932. He then attended Iowa State Teachers College [now UNI] in Cedar Falls for two years.

As a young man he drove a delivery truck for Wonder Bread, and later worked as a salesman for the O-So-Grape Pop Company and the Smith Candy Company in Waterloo. For many years he was engaged as a car salesman in the Waterloo area, last working for the Martineau Motors for 12 years.

On July 13, 1960 he was united in marriage to Charlotte Stowell Stewart at Dubuque, Iowa. Following their marriage they made their home in Waterloo, until 1973, when they moved to Marble Rock. There they owned and operated the Rock Tavern and Lounge, and also the C & H Superette. During this time he also sold cars for Cooper Motors in Allison and Richard Motors in Charles City.

Throughout Had's lifetime, selling cars was his greatest love. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Roseville, a member of the Marble Rock A.B.C., and a former member of the Marble Rock Lions Club.

Living family members include his wife, Charlotte, of Marble Rock; five sons: James A. Owen of Waterloo, Gerald Prior of Charles City; Joseph Stewart of Denver, Colorado, Michael Stewart of Cedar Falls, and John Stewart of Marble Rock; one daughter, Joann Westemeier of Cedar Falls; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one brother, William W. Owen of McGregor, Iowa

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patricia Smith; his first wife, Golda Owen; and by two sons, Don and Michael Owen.
