William J. "Bill" Meeker Sr., 70, of Nora Springs, died on Sunday, May 23, 1993 at Audubon Hospital, Audubon.

A funeral Mass was held on Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City, Iowa, with the Rev. C. Ries officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Waverly, Iowa.

Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, Mason City, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Meeker was born on July 24, 1922, in Bremer County, Iowa, a son of Dorr and Esther (McHugh) Meeker. He married Marjorie J. Barber on September 21, 1946 at Waverly, Iowa.

He graduated from Waverly High School in 1939 and attended Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI). He served in the U.S. Marines from October 1942 until receiving an honorable discharge in December 1945.

Mr. Meeker was employed by the city of Waverly until 1956, when they moved to Mason City. He then began working for the state of Iowa Department of Environmental Quality until retiring in 1981. Following his retirement they moved to Unionville, Missouri, where he operated Bill's Bottle Shop until 1988. He has resided at Nora Springs since 1988.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Meeker, Nora Springs; two sons, William and his wife Arlys, Mason City, and Charles and his wife, Nanette, Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Linda Osterholz and her husband, Ken, Unionville, Missouri, and Elizabeth Long, Nora Springs; eight grandchildren: Ramona Theissen of Des Moines, Matt Meeker of Mason City, Colby Wheeler of Exira, Sam Osterholz and Gretchen Osterholz, both of Unionville, Amy Meeker, William Meeker and Ellen Meeker, all of Cedar Rapids; and one great-grandson, Mike Theissen, Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
