Arthur Lundblad, 75, of Mason City, Iowa, died on Monday, December 13, 1993, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.
Memorial services were held Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Merlin Ackerson and the Rev. Jerry Oakland officiating. Burial was Friday at Park Cemetery in Nora Springs, with full military rites conducted by the Nora Springs American Legion Post 449.
Major Erickson Funeral Home, Mason City, was in charge of arrangements.
Arty Lundblad was born on November 28, 1918 at Odebolt, the son of Edwin J. and Minnie C. (Anderson) Lundblad. He graduated from Odebold High School and Morningside COllege, attended Drake University and later received his masters degree from the University of Denver. Art served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942-1945.
On March 11, 1943, he married Rachelle E. Harvey at Sioux City. Upon his discharge from the service, Art taught and coached at Toleda, Iowa, for two years. In 1947 Art and Rachelle moved to Nora Springs where Art taught and coached for 12 years. In 1959, Art came to NIACC, then known as Mason City Junior College.
Art coached football for seven seasons, then after the 1966 season became athletic director. After five years as athletic director, Art returned to coaching and coached football until 1977. He retired from NIACC in 1980.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 449. He was also a member of the Iowa State Teachers Association.
Survivors include his wife, Rachelle E. Lundblad, Mason City; two sons, Philip and wife JoEllen Lundblad, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Kurt and his wife Laura Lundblad, Woodbury, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Nils Lundblad and Ellie Lundblad.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
