Virgil W. Dodd, 77, of Nora Springs, Iowa, died on Tuesday, December 7, 1993, at Heritage Care Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Saturday at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Miles Grismore of Faith Baptist Church, Mason City, officiating. Cremation followed the services. Interment will be at Park Cemetery, Nora Springs, Iowa, at a later date. The family wishes memorials be made to Hospice of North Iowa.

Virgil W. Dodd was born on November 24, 1916, on a farm north of Hansell, Iowa, the son of William H. and Alice (Hanley) Dodd. He married Velma H. Bachman on December 24, 1935. They farmed north of Hansell until 1941. They moved to a farm southeast of Rock Falls. Later they moved to a farm southwest of Cresco. In 1970 they moved to a home in Nora Springs. Both Virgil and Velma worked at the Nora Springs-Rock Falls School until their retirement in the early 1980's. During his retirement years, Virgil enjoyed doing many kinds of crafts as well as enjoying his children and their families.

Survivors include his wife, Velma H. Dodd, Nora Springs; five sons: William C. Dodd and his wife Mary Ann, of Mason City, Larry V. Dodd and his wife Mary, of Nora Springs, Jerry J. Dodd and his wife, Marlene, of Bolingbrook, Illinois, Dennis D. Dodd and his wife June, and David Dodd of Nora Springs; one daughter, Sharon K. Cross and her husband Larry, of Nora Springs; one sister, Thelma Hodge, Mason City; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
