Irwin L. Demaray, a resident of the Rudd Manor Apartments at Rudd, died Monday, March 15, 1993, at his home.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, the 18th, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd, with Rev. C.D. Grim officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Floyd. Fullerton Hage Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Irwin LaVern Demaray was born on September 16, 1925 in Charles City, the son of Jay and Dorothy Mathers Demaray. He was raised on the family farm near Floyd and attended country school at the former Downs Schoolhouse.

He worked on the family farm before entering the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served as a 2nd class Seaman aboard the USS Woodcock.

He returned to the Rudd area and for over 20 years was a truck driver for the former Witzel Truck Line of Rudd, and also helped the Witzel family on their farm. He also drove trucks for the Miller Truck Line of Rudd, and worked at the First Miss Chemical and Fertilizer Plant of Rudd, retiring in 1982.

He enjoyed and had a long-standing interest in horses, and especially mules. He owned a team of mules which he entered in local parades, as well as providing rides for young children.

Living family members include three brothers and their wives, Virden and Margery of Rudd, Gene and Edith of Story City, and Leighton and Arlene of Waucoma, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dean; an infant sister; and a special aunt, Blanche Curry.
