ISAAC PORTER CHAMBERLAIN
Isaac Porter Chamberlain was born in the State of New York, January 16, 1825, and died at his home in Marble rock, Wednesday, May 22, 1912.
He came to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin in 1843, at the age of 18 years. At this time Mr. Chamberlain was engaged with a traveling company with which he traveled in different parts of the United States for about 16 years.
On April 21, 1873, he was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Yerrick, who survives him. One child was born to this union, Mr. Isaac W. Chamberlain of this place.
Mr. Chamberlain, with his family came to Iowa in 1880, and settled in Union township which has since been his home, with the exception of six years which was spent on a farm in Pleasant Grove Township.
Mr. Chamberlain was of a happy jovial disposition, whose friends were legion. “Uncle Ike”, as he was affectionately called, will be missed by a large circle of friends, for whom he always had a joke or a kind work.
He was of a strong rugged physique and had seldom employed a physician until his last sickness which began about six months ago, since which time he has been slowing failing in health.
About seven weeks ago he was confined to the house, during which time he has been a great sufferer. It is said by those, who attended him, that he made a gallant fight up to about three o’clock Wednesday afternoon when the final summons came and found him ready to go.
Mr. Chamberlain united with the M. e. Church of this place about three years ago where he was a regular attendant until old age and failing health prevented.
At the time of his death Mr. Chamberlain had reached the advanced age of 87 years, 4 months and 6 days.
