Memorial services for Deana Mae Stone, 80, a lifelong Marble Rock resident, were held on Wednesday morning at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock, with private inurnment at Hillside Cemetery in Marble Rock.

There was no visitation; the body was cremated.

Deana Mae Chamberlain was born January 11, 1914, in Marble Rock, Iowa, the only daughter of Isaac and Margaret Mary (Paulus) Chamberlain, and died at her home in Marble Rock, Saturday, December 10, 1994, of a pulmonary embolism.

She received her education from the Marble Rock Public Schools where she graduated in 1931. She later attended and graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota. She returned to Marble Rock where she was employed by Dr. L.S. Wentworth and Dr. Russell Knight in Rockford.

On October 3, 1936, she was united in marriage to Bud Hubbard at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home in Marble Rock where to this union was born one son, Jerry Dean Hubbard.

In 1946 they purchased the cafe in Marble Rock and called it Hubbard's Cubbard. Mr. Hubbard died unexpectedly on October 31 of that year. Deana Mae and her mother continued to run Hubbard's Cubbard for nine more years.

She was united in marriage to James Bascum Stone on October 2, 1948, in Freeport, Illinois. Since that time they lived in Marble Rock and to this union was born one daughter, Mary Stone. They became self employed with a construction business named James B. Stone Inc., where she was secretary and bookkeeper for the business, which they shared with their family until Jim's death on June 29, 1987. Deana Mae closed the business and retired at the end of that year.

Deana Mae was a member of the Marble Rock United Methodist Church, and was very active in the church choir and the ladie's church circles. She was secretary of the marble Rock Historical Society and the library board; member of the Study Club, Marble Rock Area Betterment Council, and a Cub Scout den mother for many years. She was an original member of the Wednesday Bridge Club. Her interests included all forms of nature, birds, animals and mushroom hunting.

Living family members include her daughter, Mary and her husband, Steven Brinkman of Marble Rock; her son, Jerry Hubbard of Mason City; four grandchildren: Buddy and his wife, Karen Hubbard of Klemme; Yancey and his wife, Karen Hubbard of Gainesville, Missouri; Toby Hubbard of Mason City and Tucker Brinkman of Marble Rock.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ike and Maggie Chamberlain.
