MRS. FROST DIES

Nora Springs, Iowa – Mrs. Charles Frost, 67, died at 5 o’clock after a lingering illness. Her daughter from Mason City had been assisting in caring for her.

The funeral of Mrs. Charles Frost will be Wednesday afternoon at the Martin-Sheckler Funeral Home, the Rev. David Lang in charge. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.

Nora Springs, Iowa – Funeral services were held for Mrs. Charles Frost Wednesday afternoon at the Martin Scheckler funeral home. Burial was at Park Cemetery.

Bertha Dahley was born in Hardanger, Norway, August 23, 1854, the daughter of Iver and Elizabeth Dahley.

She came with her parents to America in 1866 and came to Decorah, from there to Mitchell County and was married to Charles Frost December 8, 1890 and spent the remainder of her life in and around Nora Springs.

She is survived by her husband Charles Frost, one daughter; Mrs. Edward H. (Lillian) Vining of Mason City; one brother, Ole Dahley of Nora Springs; a sister; Mrs. Anna Knudson of Wheelock, North Dakota.

Her mother and father and two brothers preceded her in death. She also leaves four grandchildren Mrs. Marie Boyd; Ione Hedden; Gwendolyn Hedden; Lauretta Hedden; and one great grandchild, Bobby Boyd, all of Mason City.

Brita Iversdatter Dahle was born August 23, 1854 at the Dahle Farm, Voss Prestigheld, Ulvik, Hordaland, Norway to Iver Nielsen Dahle and Elisabet Olsdatter Seim, the third of their five children.

Brita's four siblings (all born at Dahle farm, Hordaland, Norway) were:
1.) Nels Iversen (born January 30, 1847)
2.) Viking William Iversen (born January 24, 1851)
3.) Anna Iversdatter Dahle (born August 23, 1857, married Knut Engebritsen Knutson November 1, 1877 St Ansgar, Iowa, died December 23, 1939 Wheelock, Williams, North Dakota) and
4.) Ole Iversen Dahley (born June 12, 1860, married Elen Ragnild Engebretsdatter Knudson (a sister to Knut just mentioned) December 25, 1886 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa, died January 29, 1950 Nora Sprngs, Floyd, Iowa.

Brita found with various name changes; her first name found as Brita, Britha, Bertha, Betsey, Betsy. Surname as Iversdatter (in Norway); Nelson (after emigration); Iverson (very short time after Nelson); Dahle. After marriage, she became Bertha Frost.

Brita emigrated to near Decorah, Winneshiek, Iowa with her parents and siblings in 1866.
They can be found in the 1870 census living at Pleasant, Winneshiek, Iowa: Iver Nelson 47, Isabel O. Nelson 48, Nels J. Nelson 23, William I. Nelson 18, Betsy J. Nelson 15, Ann J. Nelson 12, Ole J. Nelson 10.

Soon after, the family moved west to settle on a farm in Cedar township, Mitchell County, Iowa and Brita appears in the 1880 and 1885 censuses there.

In 1890, Brita married Charles Frost in Iowa. The couple had one daughter, Lillian M. Frost.

Found the couple in the 1895 through 1930 censuses living at Rock Grove, Floyd, Iowa: 1895: (says at Nora Springs): Bertha Frost age 37.
1900: Charles Frost 38, Bertha Frost 44, Lillie M Frost 7.
1910: Charles Frost 49, Bertha Frost 54, Lillian Frost 17.
1920: Charles C Frost 62, Bertha Frost 65.
1925: Charlie Frost 65, Bertha Frost 68.
1930: Charles Frost 68, Bertha Frost 75.

Bertha Frost died 1937 at Nora Springs, Floyd, Iowa and is buried at the Park Cemetery there.
