Nanning Frudden – September 3, 1860 – March 21, 1951

FUNERAL AT CHARLES CITY FOR PIONEER

Charles City – Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hauser Funeral Home for N. Frudden, 90, pioneer businessman and civic leader, who died Wednesday night at the Cedar Valley Hospital. He suffered a fractured hip several weeks ago which with infirmities of age was the cause of death. The Rev. Walter M. Fritschel, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, officiated and burial was in Riverside Cemetery.

Mr. Frudden was born in Germany September 3, 1860 and came to the United States in 1876. Since 1882 he had lived in Charles City where he established himself in the sash and door industry and the retail lumber business. He was president of the George P. Smith Company, 50 years and president of N. Frudden and Son, Incorporated, for 30 years. Among the activities in which he assumed leadership were the Hart-Part Company, Charles City Western Railway, Charles City Gas Company, YMCA, and the Cedar Valley Hospital.

Mr. Frudden served many years on the city council, the board of education, the park commission, and was a director in the Building and Loan association.

Survivors are his widow, Mathilde B. Frudden; 4 sons; C. Erwin Frudden, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Fred A. Frudden, Nora Springs; William E. Frudden, Charles City and Clyde Frudden, Greene, and 6 grandchildren.
