Darlene Marlis (Hackbarth) Ploeger – August 9, 1932 – November 25, 2010

Darlene Ploeger, 78, of Charles City, died Thursday, November 25, 2010, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Funeral services for Darlene Ploeger will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor David Werges of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and an hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Darlene Marlis Hackbarth Ploeger was born August 9, 1932, at Charles City, the daughter of Harold and Bernice (Clark) Hackbarth. She graduated in 1951 from the Charles City High School.

On August 23, 1953, she was united in marriage to Sheldon Ploeger. They farmed near Floyd and over the years Darlene worked at Peerless Photo, Charles City Press and at the Salsbury Baptist Home. Darlene was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Bowler’s Association, Women of the Moose, V.F.W. Auxiliary, TOPS and M&M Girls Birthday Club. Her interests included reading, working crossword puzzles and putting together jigsaw puzzles. Darlene always enjoyed spending time with her family, taking special interest in her grandchildren.

Living family members include three children, Cathy (Rich) Bergan of Cresco, Michael (Brenda) Ploeger of Ankeny and Karen (Robert) Winters of Charles City; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Darrell Hackbarth and special friend, Ruth Graf of Mason City; two half- brothers, Thomas and Kelly Hackbarth of Minneapolis, MN; and two half- sisters, Susan (Tim) Armstrong and Mary (Jim) Hollerbach both of Minneapolis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on June 23, 1986; step mother, Mary Hackbarth; a half- brother, Paul Hackbarth; and uncle and aunt, Ernest and Florence Hecht.
