Alice Ross, age 89 of Elma, Iowa passed away Sunday, November 28, 2010 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Alice Larue Gronwoldt was born on June 22, 1921 to Henry and Dorthea (Schade) Gronwoldt on the family farm near Alta Vista, Iowa. Alice attended country school and graduated from Alta Vista High School.

She was united in marriage to Paul Ross on April 29, 1943 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Paul and Alice farmed in the Alta Vista and Davis Corners area until 1977 when they moved to an acreage near Lourdes where she has lived for 33 years.

Alice enjoyed decorating cakes, gardening, crocheting, baking cookies with her grandchildren and spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Paul’s Maple Leaf Church for 51 years, and was Secretary of the WELCA.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Craig) Niewoehner of Chester, Iowa; grandchildren, Ray (Jamie) Niewoehner and John (Candy) Niewoehner both of Lime Springs, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Jade, Jessica, Ross, Jackie, and Rose; sister, Edna Sir; brother, Vern (Betty) Gronwoldt of Elma; and sister-in-law, Marlys Gronwoldt of Riceville, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul in 1988; brothers, Walter, Marvin and Leonard; and sisters, Rose, Esther, Dorthea and Norma.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at St. Paul’s Maple Leaf Lutheran Church in Elma with Pastor Dan Christensen officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memorial Garden** at Charles City, Iowa.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in Elma and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
